20th Anniversary Auction RecapMonday, May 04, 2009
The Heart and Soul Charitable Fund 20th Anniversary Auction was hosted by Christie's Auction House on February 19 in New York City. It was a memorable evening, attended by over 300 guests who contributed over $250,000 (preliminary results) for our NYC social outreach programs. We are grateful for the dynamic leadership of our Auction Chairs, James and Kerianne Flynn, and the support of so many people from the congregation who made this remarkable fundraiser such a success.
In addition to the silent and live auction events, the first annual Forrest Church Award for humanitarian service was presented. Our Forrest Church, theologian and author, is a profile in courage for his work in helping those less fortunate. He is truly inspirational and motivational-and is a humble humanitarian.
Receiving the inaugural award was former President Bill Clinton. In his acceptance, Clinton discussed the growing interdependence of the global community and the pressing need for individuals to act in concert to solve crises that can no longer be confined to one region or country. He emphasized how essential it is that each person contributes what he or she can, because in this time of economic destabilization, every dollar given is so much more important than it was in the past.
Since 1988, the Heart & Soul Charitable Fund has worked to support and advance New York City organizations focused on youth services, neighborhood programs, women in need, feeding, and services for the elderly.
