2015 Spirit of Heart and Soul Awardee Announced

Wednesday, December 17, 2014

We have exciting news about the 26th Heart & Soul Auction.  The 2015 Gala Heart & Soul Auction will be held on Tuesday evening, March 3, 2015 at the headquarters of the law firm, Shearman & Sterling, 599 Lexington Avenue.  This was the location of our first Heart & Soul Auction, twenty-six years ago.
A highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Heart & Soul Award to the Reverend Dick Leonard.  The year 2015 marks the 50th Anniversary of the march from Selma to Montgomery and the enactment of the history-changing Voting Rights Act of 1965.  Rev. Leonard participated in the Selma demonstrations and was one of the 26 white persons of the 300 who were permitted to walk the 54 miles in 1965.  His book, Call to Selma:  Eighteen Days of Witness, is the only account of the march, and the days leading up to it, by someone who walked the whole distance.  His book is now in the National Archives.  Heart & Soul is honoring Rev. Leonard for his magnificent career of service to our country and to our community.
The Heart & Soul Gala Auction is the primary fund-raiser for the outreach programs that provide services to our neighbors in need.  Please visit our website, www.heartandsoulfund.org for the latest information about the work of the Fund.
And, do look for our online Holiday Auction with CharityBuzz that launches December 1st and runs through the 16th.   Visit http://charitybuzz.com/heart&soul for the latest offerings.
