FORMER PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON RECEIVES FORREST CHURCH AWARD FOR HUMANITARIAN SERVICE.  Presented by Forrest Church at the Heart and Soul Charitable Fund 20th Anniversary Auction

The Heart and Soul Fund 20th Anniversary Auction was hosted by Christie's Auction House on February 19th, in New York City. The evening was notable for the broad support that was evident from individual New Yorkers and New York-based corporations at this time of rising need. Feeding programs for the homeless and child education and experience organizations were highlighted throughout the evening and as a result received funding toward their essential 2009 objectives.

The 2009 Heart and Soul Charitable Fund Auction was additionally the stage for the presentation of the Forrest Church Award for humanitarian service. Forrest Church, theologian and author, is a profile of courage for his work in helping those less fortunate. He is truly inspirational and motivational - and is a humble humanitarian. The Forrest Church award for humanitarian service will be given each year to a person who demonstrates this same courage and selflessness while being influential for the betterment of the world in which we live.

Receiving the inaugural award was honoree Bill Clinton. In a one hour acceptance presentation, former President Clinton discussed the growing interdependence of the global community and the pressing need for individuals to act in concert to solve crises that no longer can be isolated to one region or country. He additionally emphasized how essential it is that each person contributes what he or she can because in this time of economic destabilization, each dollar that is given is more important than in the past. He emphasized that if financial contributions are not possible, then we each bear the responsibility to find a way to participate in the process of creating solutions.
